Successful E-Bike & E-Scooter Operation Across Harringay

Today, SNT officers carried out a targeted operation focusing on the Green Lanes, Finsbury Park and Wood Green areas to address ongoing concerns surrounding the illegal use of high-powered e-bikes and electric scooters.

As a result of proactive patrols and enforcement activity, officers successfully seized multiple high-powered e-bikes and electric scooters being used unlawfully on public roads and footways. These vehicles were identified as not meeting the legal requirements for use on public highways and posed a significant risk to pedestrians and other road users.

Know the Law

Many high-powered e-bikes are classified in law as motor vehicles, meaning they must have:

Vehicle registration

Insurance

A valid driving licence

An MOT (where required)

Riders found using these vehicles without the above may be liable for offences including:

Driving without insurance

Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence

Vehicle seizure

Potential points, fines, and prosecution

It is also important to note that privately owned electric scooters cannot currently be used on public roads, pavements, or public spaces. They may only be used on private land with the landowner's permission. Riders found using privately owned e-scooters in public places risk having their vehicle seized and may face further enforcement action.
